Managing Editor at Raptors Republic

Title: Managing Editor at Raptors Republic
Date: October 26, 2015 (July 21, 2009, really)
Original Source: Raptors Republic
Synopsis: I’m trying something new starting with the 2015-16 NBA season. I left my post as Senior NBA News Editor at theScore in order to try my hand at full-time freelancing for a year. Part of that change includes me taking over Raptors Republic on a full-time basis as the site’s Managing Editor.

That means I’m responsible for the content you see there, drumming up ad revenue and sponsorship, organizing our annual events, and managing the staff. I’ll be doing way more writing for the site, too, which is the big change here. It also means there will probably be too much volume for me to re-post everything here, so make sure to check out my Raptors Republic archive, in addition to this site, where my non-RR stuff will still appear.

Fantasy Baseball Analyst at Rotographs

Title: Fantasy Baseball Analyst at Rotographs
Date: January 21, 2016
Original Source: Rotographs
Synopsis: I’ve started back up at Rotographs on what’s close to a full-time basis. I’ll be contributing at least four pieces a week and, once the season starts, be manning the larger side of their Roto Riteup platoon, providing a for-your-coffee breakdown of the prior day’s baseball happenings.

There will probably be too much volume for me to re-post everything here, so make sure to check out my Rotographs archive, in addition to this site, where anything I write for the Fangraphs side will definitely still appear.

Former NBA news editor at theScore

Title: NBA news editor at theScore
Date: Aug. 20, 2013 – Oct. 25, 2015
Original Source: theScore
Synopsis: Hey, so I had a cool job where I waspaid to write sports news for 40 hours a week.

Primarily covering the NBA (but sometimes NCAAB and occasionally MMA, NFL, or MLB), I covered breaking news for what’s grown into the second-biggest mobile sports news app in North America. That meant staying current with news, injuries, lineups, systems, quotes, and more, on a daily basis in an unpredictable newsroom environment.

Alerting thousands of team and league subscribers to the latest real-time news with the proper context required a breadth of league-specific knowledge – I’m intimately familiar with the NBA’s CBA, every player and team league-wide, the D-League, international leagues and international competition, and league history. I was on the desk for events like the opening of free agency, two NBA Finals, the Donald Sterling scandal and subsequent trial, retirements, league-altering trades and signings, and much more.

I was also responsible for our NBA draft coverage in 2014 and 2015, writing full scouting reports on all first-round prospects and pre-writing posts for every potential draft pick for use on draft night.

If you’re ever curious what all of that work looked like, everything I wrote there can be found here. For the purposes of this site, I haven’t posted any of my content from theScore, though I may eventually add links to some of my favorite works.

What’s My Age Again? On a two-decade relationship with blink-182

My tenth grade girlfriend burnt my blink-182 t-shirt.

This, of course, sounds patently ridiculous. Not only is the idea of a broken-hearted 16-year-old setting an ex’s clothing aflame beyond cliché, it’s also just hard to imagine anyone deciding on a goofy-rabbitted blink-182 shirt, of all merchandise, to set fire to, even in effigy. Of all the angsty bands I have and continue to listen to, blink – particularly pre-self-titled blink – seems an ill-advised avatar. After all, who takes blink-182, a band that became unthinkably popular while refusing to take themselves as such, that seriously?

As it turns out, I do.
