Synopsis: Hey, so I had a cool job where I waspaid to write sports news for 40 hours a week.
Primarily covering the NBA (but sometimes NCAAB and occasionally MMA, NFL, or MLB), I covered breaking news for what’s grown into the second-biggest mobile sports news app in North America. That meant staying current with news, injuries, lineups, systems, quotes, and more, on a daily basis in an unpredictable newsroom environment.
Alerting thousands of team and league subscribers to the latest real-time news with the proper context required a breadth of league-specific knowledge – I’m intimately familiar with the NBA’s CBA, every player and team league-wide, the D-League, international leagues and international competition, and league history. I was on the desk for events like the opening of free agency, two NBA Finals, the Donald Sterling scandal and subsequent trial, retirements, league-altering trades and signings, and much more.
I was also responsible for our NBA draft coverage in 2014 and 2015, writing full scouting reports on all first-round prospects and pre-writing posts for every potential draft pick for use on draft night.
If you’re ever curious what all of that work looked like, everything I wrote there can be found here. For the purposes of this site, I haven’t posted any of my content from theScore, though I may eventually add links to some of my favorite works.
