Kyle Lowry is not telling.
The truth is, even he probably doesn’t know what will unfold when he becomes an unrestricted free agent this summer. On Monday, as the Toronto Raptors cleaned out their lockers at BioSteel Centre, the 31-year-old point guard confirmed the long-held belief he would decline his $12-million player option for the 2017-18 season.
After that? There was not much information. It was Day One of a process that could last almost two months, and he was genuine in saying: “I wouldn’t BS you guys. I would, but not this time.”
With the largest decision of his career looming, Lowry has earned the right to take his time.
“A ring,” he said, of his priorities. “Nothing else. I just want a ring.”
