Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I looked at some tape of OG Anunoby’s first few appearances and came away impressed.
Toronto Raptors rookie OG Anunoby made his NBA debut on Thursday, scoring nine points in 17 minutes in a 117-100 victory against the Chicago Bulls.
“It felt good to play my first game,” Anunoby opened up afterward.
Anunoby previously appeared in two pre-season games, looking similarly impressive. The start of the regular season brought with it a much different environment for the forward.
“Yeah,” he admitted. “There was more people here at this one.”
Anunoby will likely play again Saturday when the Raptors host the Philadelphia 76ers, and for at least a few more years after that.

Jesting aside, as much as Anunoby, a man who likes to use as few words as possible when speaking with the media, might prefer that to be the end of the story, that won’t cover it when the No. 23 overall pick from the 2017 draft makes a terrific first impression in his NBA debut well before initial expectations even had him on the floor.
