Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I wrote about the 2019 BioSteel All Canadian Game, a fun MVP back-and-forth on the boys side, the first edition of the girls game, and more.
A little under a year ago, Addison Patterson and Jahcobi Neath were on the same side as Canada finished second in the FIBA U-18 Americas Championship. In the year since, each has continued to decorate his pre-college résumé, with Patterson transferring from Orangeville Prep to Bella Vista Prep and rocketing up rankings boards and Neath becoming a Canadian national prep champion and MVP.
On Sunday, their friendship was put to the side as their individual successes landed on a collision course at the 2019 BioSteel All Canadian Game.
In a game that swung in each player’s favor at times and highlighted each of their strengths — Patterson’s individual scoring ability, Neath’s composed floor general approach — it was Patterson who got the better of his friend this time out. While each player was named MVP of his respective side, Patterson’s Team Red came out ahead.
