The NBA and the Internet

Title: The NBA and the Internet
Date: April 17, 2008
Original Source: Hoops Addict
Synopsis: This Hoops Addict article took a look at how the NBA’s use of the internet was superior to other sports in terms of leveraging the brand and reaching new fans. MLB has since caught up with their online content, but the NBA is still 1A. Like all of my HA articles, the links have been lost due to a server transfer, but the text was backed up.

The Wire and the MVP Race

Title: The Wire and the MVP Race
Date: April 15, 2008
Original Source: The On Deck Circle
Synopsis: This is one of my favorite articles I’ve written. Bill Simmons himself even more or less stole the concept for an article later on. Anyway, instead of looking at the NBA MVP race in the usual frame of reference, I made each contender a character from The Wire and broke things down from that perspective.

A Look Back at the NHL Lockout

Title: A Look Back at the NHL Lockout
Date: April 12, 2008
Original Source: The On Deck Circle
Synopsis: This might have been a first. I took an essay I did as a large cumulative project for a Labor Relations class, on the NHL Lockout, and posted it as an article. It’s long, it has an Economics feel to it (so…really exciting), and it’s depressing to remember a lost hockey season.

Southeast Division Recap

Title: Southeast Division Recap
Date: April 8, 2008
Original Source: About.com
Synopsis: After branching out from The ODC to Hoops Addict, I also got hooked up doing weekly Southeast Division reviews for About.com. Why? Because the site is USA Today affiliated, and because I had a connection with the editor and he needed someone on short notice. It only lasted a few weeks of the season and into the summer, and the links are now lost (About.com doesn’t keep archives of previous seasons’ weekly division reviews, because apparently nobody cares what the Wizards’ outlook was in late March of 2008, go figure), but luckily I have backups and can recover the text.
