Title: Raptors blowout of 76ers a reminder of a path avoided

Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I reflected on the differences between the Raptors’ path and that of the Sixers, using a “good” blowout win and a “bad” one (shouts to Ben Uzoh) as diametric moments.
On Monday night, cameras caught Philadelphia 76ers president and general manager Bryan Colangelo watching his team against the Toronto Raptors from the tunnel at the Air Canada Centre. It was a familiar sight for any Raptor fan watching during Colangelo’s up-and-down tenure at the helm of the franchise. It was one of his most oft-visited destinations from late February 2006 to May of 2013.
The Raptors would go on to blow the Sixers out 122-95. For Colangelo, though, it was likely reminiscent of one of the most notable blowouts he witnessed from that same tunnel, a little less than four years ago, one that he unfortunately came out on the winning side of. Unfortunate because, at that point in the year, Colangelo’s vision for the team’s future would have been aided more by a loss than a victory.
“I, admittedly, tried tanking,” Colangelo confirmed at the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference in March 2014.
