Title: Meet the Raptors 905 ‘pitbull’ who finally got a chance at the NBA D-League Showcase

Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I wrote about how a Raptors 905 player sacrificed his roster spot to allow head coach Jerry Stackhouse to “let my pitbull out” and play Goodluck Okonoboh at the D-League Showcase.
As Goodluck Okonoboh removed his warm-ups and walked to the scorer’s table, few at Hershey Centre were aware of the significance of the moment, or what had gone into it. Okonoboh, hair braided tight to his skull beneath a headband, revealed nothing, his ever-present smile off the court benched in favor of a stoic demeanour.
Two days prior, Raptors 905 head coach Jerry Stackhouse had promised this was coming, announcing his intention to play Okonoboh in the second game of the NBA D-League Showcase.
“I’m gonna find him some minutes,” Stackhouse explained Wednesday. “[He’s] been unbelievable supporting his teammates and cheering, and, when he hadn’t had an opportunity, always looking me in my eye whenever I’m talking — I’mma give him an opportunity to showcase himself.
“I told ‘em, I’m letting my pitbull out this week.”
