Title: New North jerseys find middle ground: A power ranking of every Raptors jersey
Date: January 2, 2018
Original Source: The Athletic
Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I power ranked the 20 jerseys the Raptors have worn during their existence.
ast week, an observant shopper on the NBA Europe store stumbled onto an open secret of sorts: The Toronto Raptors new jersey had leaked on an official NBA page.
To rewind a second: The NBA switched over from adidas to Nike as their apparel provider starting this year, the first in a new eight-year agreement signed back in 2015. That means all 30 NBA teams are operating with a new jersey set for this season. Most of the changes for the first three jerseys for each team — essentially a home, away, and an alternate, though Nike uses different names (like “Statement” when the first looks officially hit the runway) — have been subtle, most opting to stay familiar since there won’t be nearly as many jerseys to choose from game-to-game in the first year of the new deal.
Tha NBA and Nike were keeping the fourth jersey under wraps as long as possible. The plan was for teams to not use their “City” alternates until the new year. The longer the jerseys — all much more experimental and often more garish than the other three — could stay a secret, the better. This being 2017 and the internet being what it is, this seemed an impossible task. Multiple (ultimately accurate) unconfirmed leaks came out from jersey enthusiasts and hardcore fans alike, NBA 2K18 accidentally updated 28 of the jerseys before quickly taking them down, and then there was the NBA Europe thing (the Raptors jerseys have since been taken down).
