Title: New Raptors 905 GM Chad Sanders ready for a most unique challenge
Date: October 12, 2018

Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic, I profiled new Raptors 905 general manager Chad Sanders, who was promoted to the rule this summer.
The G League season isn’t set to start for three weeks and yet it is one of the most important dates on the Raptors 905 calendar. In the Toronto Raptors’ final preseason game in New Orleans on Thursday, they benched eight regular rotation players, clearing the way for the remaining 12 to either get continued reps in playing more featured roles or, more importantly, make a final case for the team’s final roster spot.
When the Raptors trim the roster from 20 to 14 — plus a pair of two-way contracts — this weekend, Chad Sanders will know a lot more about the foundation from which he’ll have to build the 2018-19 version of the 905. Sanders, of course, is not on-hand for the game, because it would be far too simple for someone in his role to be wearing just one hat. Instead, he’s off on an early scouting trip, already turning an eye toward 2019 and beyond even though his feet are barely wet for 2018.
This is the life Sanders has to get used to as the new general manager of Raptors 905, and based on his career to date, it’s a life he seems eminently well-suited for.
