Title: Norman Powell’s shoulder injury could cost him weeks, momentum

Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic, I wrote about Norman Powell’s shoulder injury, a blow the Raptors can survive but a disappointing one nonetheless.
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Norman Powell knew immediately. On his first possession of the game against the Utah Jazz on Monday, Powell caught his left shoulder awkwardly fighting through a screen, stumbled while grabbing at his arm, and checked out of the game. His stint lasted all of 13 seconds, which feels like roughly the amount of time the Toronto Raptors have been fully healthy so far this season.
That’s not entirely unusual, as few teams remain completely intact over 82 games. Still, it’s been extreme. The Raptors have played just one game with their full complement of players available to them, and that game saw multiple pieces showing rust. Outside of that, OG Anunoby has missed three games for personal reasons, Kawhi Leonard has missed four for a combination of rest and a jammed foot, and Fred VanVleet and Delon Wright missed four and five, respectively, limiting their symbiotic on-court relationship to just 34 minutes so far.
Now, Powell figures to miss time and it might be substantial.
