Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic, I collaborated with Derek Bodner of The Athletic Philadelphia to preview the second-round playoff series between the Raptors and the 76ers.
The Toronto Raptors will host the Philadelphia 76ers in a second-round series that should help determine whether the massive risks each side took in the summer and during the season were worthwhile. The 76ers expedited The Process to acquire Jimmy Butler and, later, Tobias Harris, while the Raptors shook up their franchise core by ousting DeMar DeRozan, Dwane Casey and Jonas Valanciunas for Kawhi Leonard, Nick Nurse and Marc Gasol over a series of moves. Each side had this moment — and the ones that will follow for the winner — in mind, and one side is going to come up having risked an awful lot only to be bounced in the exact same spot.
The Athletic will have Derek Bodner and Eric Koreen on the ground in both cities and Blake Murphy (me!) based in Toronto to take you through all the ins and outs of what should be a very entertaining series. Today, Derek and I will take a look at some of the key plot points and most important matchups for Raptors-76ers.
MURPHY: Well, if there was any question as to whether these two teams were ready for each other in the second round, they sure tried to put it to rest Tuesday. After both the Raptors and 76ers sputtered early in their respective series, there wasn’t much doubt remaining by the end. These are two very good teams, with two of the best starting lineups in basketball.
