QUEBEC CITY — If “Remedial Chaos Theory” isn’t the best of Community’s 110 episodes, it is unquestionably within the top five. As it turns out, it also may be the most applicable to the Toronto Raptors’ 2018-19 NBA championship.
In the episode, Jeff (Joel McHale) rolls a six-sided die to determine which of seven friends has to go out and collect pizzas from the delivery guy, cleverly rigging the game so he can’t possibly be selected. Abed (Danny Pudi) warns that leaving even an insignificant decision like this up to chance will split the current moment into six alternate timelines. The episode then provides a glimpse into how life plays out for the gang based on each particular roll outcome, ranging from fine and happy to “the darkest timeline,” which becomes a running gag throughout subsequent seasons.
The episode is ripe with charm, character insight and quotable – and memeable – moments.
