Murphy and Koreen: Role-playing through a mock OG Anunoby contract negotiation

Title: Murphy and Koreen: Role-playing through a mock OG Anunoby contract negotiation
Date: October 6, 2020
Original Source: The Athletic
Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, Eric Koreen and I held a mock negotiation to see if we could find common ground for an OG Anunoby extension with the Raptors.

Welcome to another edition of Raptors Reasonablists with Eric Koreen and Blake Murphy. Throughout the year, Raptors staff writers Koreen and Murphy discuss hot-button issues surrounding the team, but with an even-keeled approach in pursuit of finding a reasonable middle ground. If we have faith in anything, it is that reasonable middle grounds lead to: a) workable long-term solutions; b) increased empathy and understanding for others; and c) more wins — at least more wins when they truly matter, probably. We hold these truths to be self-evident, and we hold these truths to be good truths.

MURPHY: I’ve always wanted a much better pull-up jumper.

In that spirit, for the rest of this edition of Raptors Reasonablists, I will be playing the role of Bobby Webster, the Toronto Raptors’ general manager. Webster, of course, represents one pillar of the Raptors’ collaborative front office. Team president Masai Ujiri is, we’ll say, predisposed with bigger-picture considerations right now. He has 2021 to plan for, and maybe something outside of basketball to make the world a better place.
