Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, Eric Koreen and I explored the option of the Raptors making a play for soon-to-be free agent DeMarcus Cousins.

A truth: The Raptors lack a tall, big, skilled guy, whether that guy ends up starting at centre or coming off the bench. That has been true since Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol left for duelling Los Angeles teams on consecutive days in November. The Raptors also have an unused 15th roster spot, which has remained vacant since they waived Alex Len in January.

Another truth: DeMarcus Cousins is tall, big and skilled, and he’s now available. The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported on Saturday that the Rockets are planning to part ways with Cousins, despite the former All-Star having apparently been professional in a precarious situation in Houston. The Rockets’ season was put on hold with James Harden’s trade demand, and it has now very much changed into a rebuilding scenario.
