Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I explained the process behind the Raptors signing Donta Hall for an immediate Raptors 905 assignment and checked in on the progress of the team’s other prospects.
It would have been difficult to make a better — or quicker — first impression.
Earlier Friday, Donta Hall signed a 10-day contract with the Toronto Raptors. It represented a bit of a G League oddity, with the NBA club signing Hall and then immediately assigning him to Raptors 905. Hall didn’t even have to change hotel rooms in the G League bubble, he just showed up for a different shootaround and game time than initially expected.
Hall’s debut with the 905 later that night was a good snapshot of what he brings to the table. He scored 18 points despite using just nine possessions, blocked four shots and grabbed five rebounds, all in just 23 minutes. More to why the Raptors like him, it was almost comical to hear Hall describe what he intended to bring to the team and what head coach Patrick Mutombo was going to ask of him.
