Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I wrote about a number of things as the Raptors finished up one of their worst months ever and the vibes hit an all-time low.
During the 2015 stretch run, Toronto Blue Jays pitcher David Price left a reminder for himself in his locker: “If you don’t like it, pitch better.”
It’s a sentiment that’s stuck with me. Unhappy with your circumstances, do what you can to change them. We can include any number of caveats, but at its core, it can be an affirming mentality. It feels especially true in sports, where we’d all like to believe players and coaches have control over their effort and attention to detail, and therefore their execution and performance.
