It’s hard to know how attached to let yourself get.
By definition, 10-day contracts in the NBA are often exactly as they sound. They’re short. Fleeting. If you’re lucky to get to know a player, there’s a good chance he’ll be gone right as you invest. A tough season like this one has been emotionally exhausting as it is; Can you really open yourself up to having another player you like leave?
Freddie Gillespie has forced your hand. Not only does the 23-year-old rookie have a tremendous backstory, he’s spent his 19 days with the Raptors so far winning fans with affable media sessions, great dance moves and, most importantly, strong play.
