Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I broke down the Raptors’ selection of Malachi Flynn at No. 29.
The Toronto Raptors are trying their luck with a San Diego State product. With the No. 29 pick Wednesday in the 2020 NBA Draft, the Raptors selected Malachi Flynn.
Flynn stands out immediately as a fit for the Raptors’ current style of play, as we highlighted back in May. He’s a bit undersized at 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, an older prospect at 22 and possesses a lot of potential that could result in people looking back someday and wondering how he slipped to the end of the first round. He also comes equipped with the intelligence and toughness that the Raptors seek, allowing him to project as a strong culture and system fit. That he’ll get at least one season to shadow Kyle Lowry – and possibly Fred VanVleet, too – helps make his path to a higher-percentile outcome even clearer.
