Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I wrote my annual free agency primer, exploring the Raptors decisions, options, and exceptions under the salary cap.

At Kyle Lowry’s season-ending press conference, William Lou asked him about, well, being old. Will mentioned Sue Bird, who Lowry called his “homie” before mentioning Diana Taurasi, Tom Brady, Vince Carter and Rafael Nadal as other athletes still performing at a high level deep into their 30s or even 40s.

Recognizing elite performance in old age when he sees it, Will later conceded in my DMs that, “maybe I should just ask you.”

It would have stung if I hadn’t recently gone back through the history of my Raptors free agency primers and realized this is Year 10 of me doing them. Yikes. It didn’t exist in its current form back in 2012 — it was around 2015 when the piece found a set structure, with another shift in 2017 when a new collective bargaining agreement was introduced.
