Title: After Miller signing, the candidates for Raptors’ remaining open roster spots
Date: February 8, 2019

Synopsis: In my latest for The Athletic Toronto, I took a look at way too many candidates the Raptors could look at to fill their open roster spots after the trade deadline.
The Raptors barely let me fly from Atlanta to New York before making a move and requiring a quick rewrite of this column. I mentioned earlier Friday morning that the Raptors would need to move swiftly to add an 11th man and come into compliance with the NBA roster minimum and they did just that.
Malcolm Miller is signing with the Raptors on a 10-day contract, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.
In the first draft of this story, I had Miller as a marquee potential signing, which won’t surprise long-time readers. I’ve been a big fan of Miller’s game for some time now and believe he’s an NBA-caliber player, and there’s the important added benefit of him checking off a lot of boxes the Raptors only had a few hours to fill: Available, nearby, healthy-ish and, in a best-case scenario, familiar enough with Nick Nurse and the team’s system to step in right away. That he played and even started a handful of games for the Raptors last year is a big plus.
